I have been "autopiloting" the Benwa for 1/3 of the time from Kansas City thank you to Garmin and Navionics. During my shifts, Bob and Tim have put me at the helm in my life jacket. At 7 knots (roughly 7 miles an hour), it's pretty safe. It gives you plenty of time to see the beauty of this country, so I have been told by Bob and Tim.
I will join them in Juneau, Alaska so that I can "Live" and "In Person" pilot the Benwa starting Memorial Day Weekend. I'm not fully retired like Bob and Tim, so for the next few weeks I will be working part-time remote from Kansas City and listening and watching the videos they produce and reading their blogs about their adventures.
Right now I'm making a list of "MUST SEE" places in the Juneau area that we will document here for you to also enjoy. Currently on my list are Glaciers, Humpback Whales, and Bear Island. I was going to try dog sledding, but all of the reservations have already been filled for the time I'll be there. So that's my first tip. If you want to dog sled, it has limited availability, so plan ahead and reserve early.
I'll keep checking in as I begin to prepare for my part of the journey North to Alaska.
